Together, we create more attractive urban environments
We have a clear ambition: our presence should help make cities and airports more pleasant, dynamic, and sustainable. That’s why we reinvest a large share of our advertising revenue into smart urban solutions that are accessible to everyone who lives in or visits the city.
We’re proud to add value by creating more modern, inclusive public spaces. Through ad-funded city solutions, we contribute to friendlier, more vibrant city centres. Today, we’re present in more than 70 municipalities across Norway and at six of the country’s airports, delivering everything from public toilets and transit shelters to city bikes — and much more.
Transit shelters
We help municipalities create attractive bus stops with functional, sustainable, modern shelters that make choosing public transport the easy option. The shelters protect passengers from rain and rough weather, and they light up the surroundings after dark — helping increase safety for local residents.
Over the past decade, Bauer Media Outdoor has built, and managed the operation and maintenance of, thousands of well-used and well-liked transit shelters across Norway.

City bikes
Bauer Media Outdoor was the first in the world to launch a public bike-rental system. Today, it’s a popular way to get around in many Scandinavian cities, with a growing number of rides and subscribers. By giving people access to sustainable transport that supports both health and the environment, city bikes also help create more bike-friendly, modern city centres for residents and visitors alike.
The new bikes don’t just offer a fast, safe, and climate-smart way to travel — they’re also by far the most affordable way to get around Oslo and Trondheim. That’s made possible because advertising revenue covers everything from procurement and rollout to daily operation and maintenance.

Public toilets
Public toilets are a natural part of the urban landscape and play an important role in people’s comfort — and in making it easier to spend time in public spaces. Whether it’s a city centre or a nature area, we develop the most sustainable solutions. Using modern technology and working from each municipality’s needs, the design is tailored so the facility fits seamlessly into its surroundings.
You can choose from a wide range of options — from wheelchair- and stroller-friendly layouts, to adding a small drinking fountain for refilling water bottles by a sports field, or including extras like a shower, bike pump, and more.
Bauer Media Outdoor’s leasing partners are Norwegian-owned and environmentally certified. With many years of experience building and operating public toilets, they’re also responsible for ongoing operations and daily service.

Waste bins
Waste bins play a key role in creating cleaner, more pleasant urban spaces. By making bins easy to find and placing them where people actually move through the city, municipalities create better conditions for a safer, more welcoming environment — for everyone.
Together with partners, we can offer smart, ad-funded waste bins that don’t just cut littering and reduce municipal collection costs, but over time also lower CO₂ emissions. Thanks to solar-powered compactors, many of the bins can hold up to seven times their normal volume. When they’re ready to be emptied, the bin sends its fill level directly to the service team.
Many of our bins are also designed to prevent pests from getting inside and to keep trash from blowing back out in the wind. And of course, we also provide standard, classic waste containers.

Sedum roofs on transit shelters
In 2018, Bauer Media Outdoor introduced its first transit shelters with eco-friendly sedum roofs. Since then, we’ve rolled out many more — and have also added green roofs to public toilets across Scandinavia.
Sedum plants are excellent at storing water efficiently, which reduces runoff and makes them well suited for life on rooftops. Compared with traditional black roofing felt or similar materials that absorb heat, green roofs also help improve air quality and create a lush little oasis — one that can actually lower temperatures during hot summer days.

Bike parking
Practical bike parking makes it easier for cyclists to park safely and securely, which encourages more people to choose bikes over cars. Covered bike parking areas also create dedicated spaces in the city that clearly show residents and visitors where to leave their bikes — helping keep streets and sidewalks more accessible for everyone.
Some of our bike parking solutions include solar panels and lighting. The lighting creates a welcoming feel in the evening and at night, and helps strengthen people’s sense of safety.

Bike pumps
Easy-to-access bike pumps are a simple, effective way to encourage more cycling. Our manual foot pumps are placed along popular bike routes, and the universal nozzle fits almost all types of wheels — including bikes, strollers, and wheelchairs.
Create the right conditions for residents and visitors to choose cycling — for both the environment and public health. All part of building a more bike-friendly, sustainable city.

Bike counters
Counting how many bikes pass certain points in a city makes urban planning easier and helps improve safety. At the same time, it can be motivating and inspiring for cyclists — and everyone else — to see how many people choose bikes as a way to get around.
Data from our bike counters can be displayed by day, week, month, or year.

EV chargers
As electric cars become more common across the country, the demand for easily accessible charging stations is growing too. With Bauer Media Outdoor’s business model, municipalities can offer EV chargers where the rollout is funded through advertising revenue. By making greener options available, cities make it simpler for residents and visitors to choose more sustainable transport.
