City Bike

City bikes are not only a fast, safe, and environmentally friendly way to get around, but also by far the cheapest way to travel around Oslo, Trondheim, and Bergen. This is made possible by advertising revenue, which helps finance everything from purchasing and installation to operations and maintenance.

Our City Bike systems

Bauer Media Outdoor was the first to introduce an automated bike-sharing system in a European capital. Bike sharing has become a popular travel option in many municipalities across Scandinavia, with a growing number of rides and subscribers.

In addition to providing sustainable means of transport that promote health and environmental benefits, the initiative also helps create a more bike-friendly and modern city centre for residents and visitors alike.

City bike: good for you, good for the city!

Simple and Seamless

The bike-sharing system is app-based. Our solution makes it easy to get started, find a bike, and begin a ride. The entire system is built around and linked to the user’s phone number.

Bike users can also report issues with bikes directly through the app. Errors and deviations are collected in reports in our admin interface, where we can log, sort, and prioritize repairs.

‍

Hybrid lock

In Trondheim and Bergen, the bikes are equipped with a hybrid lock. This makes it possible to physically secure the bike to a designated bike rack, as many cities prefer, while also allowing users to pause their ride by locking the bike to itself.

The bikes are equipped with GPS and an accelerometer that will alert the system if someone attempts to move a bike while it is parked or locked outside a designated bike rack.

‍

Algorithm-Based Operation

We have integrated data analytics and predictive models into the product to optimize operations. This enables us to rebalance the facility as efficiently as possible.

‍

Working Together with the City

When establishing bike-sharing systems, we always work closely and collaboratively with the municipality. Having a station in the neighborhood makes the area more attractive to residents, employees, and visitors, and we see strong demand from both residents and local businesses for stations nearby.

‍

Local Operations

Our bike-sharing teams consist of mechanics and drivers of specially adapted service vehicles. We have dedicated bike workshops in each city, and during the summer, much of the repair work is carried out on-site at the stations.

‍

Close Collaboration

Successful planning and expansion have been the result of close and effective collaboration with Trondheim Municipality. The municipality facilitated rapid expansion, and within just a few weeks of launch, 40 stations were in place in and around central Trondheim.

We provide detailed reports with key figures and up-to-date information about the system. They also have access to a dedicated dashboard with real-time data on usage figures, user patterns, and sales.

In 2024, we entered into a partnership with AtB, where bike sharing is included in the public transport period pass. This gives all public transport passengers in Trondheim the opportunity to combine cycling and public transport to get around the city.
